Northumbria University once again teamed up with IT training company QA Consulting to deliver a free computer programming session as part of the Institute of Coding (IoC).

We had a distinguished guest, the Member of Parliament for Newcastle upon Tyne North Catherine McKinnell. She visited Northumbria University on Saturday, the 27th of April to find out more about “Institute of Coding” project that aims to improve the digital skills of the nation. She was hugely impressed by voluntary free inclusive coding training being offered by IoC Northumbria and QA Consulting.

With a current skills gap for coding and coders in the tech sector, Northumbria has previously hosted two other workshops as part of this series, Python and Intermediate Python. The free training aims to inspire those people currently underrepresented in the tech sector, and promote a career in technology to everyone.

The IoC launched in 2018, with Northumbria working alongside other universities and industrial partners to develop the next generation of digital talent at degree level and above.

The coding sessions had so far been a great success, teaching attendants how to install the Python programming language and explore its other features and functions. The most recent event took place last month and saw learners of all ages and abilities in attendance.

The latest Teach the Nation to Code event focused on Databases and took place from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 April in Ellison Building, Block A Room ELB 0001.
